Hi, we’re the Hatheways

We are a married couple in our late 20s who are moving to Greeley so Kelsey could attend UNC. We have no children, but we are passionate about volunteering with and advocating for children in our spare time. Kelsey wanted to use experience and education to care for infants during grad school, and Henry is a natural organizer and manager. Together, we make up the Hatheway Home.

Kelsey Elliot Hatheway, infant carer & Counseling Psychology Ph.D. student

Hi there, I’m Kelsey. I am currently a grad student at the University of Northern Colorado. I often hear that I have a soothing, warm presence that makes me a very supportive person. I grew up caring for children in my church nursery my whole childhood and adolescence, and I nannied for infants in college, which is where I fell in love with child care. Because of my love of psychology, I’ve always been focused on promoting healthy growth through following the most up-to-date guidance on child development.

I became really interested in the Montessori method of providing children with an enriching environment and activities when I began to research whether I’d like to have children of my own. I believe that all children have potential and all we need to do is remove the barriers. Babies learn from us much earlier than we think, and it’s a responsibility I take seriously to be charged with caring for young minds.

Henry Hatheway, advocate, mentor, manager

My husband Henry is the warmest, friendliest man you’ll ever meet. I often tell others he’s like a golden retriever. He prefers to work outdoors, pictured here in Bryce Canyon National Park, but he’s always willing to help run the office side of things when I want to work for myself.

On his own, he’s an incredibly accomplished youth mentor (so good he was promoted to lead all the mentors), child advocate (see below), and project manager. His organizational skills will ensure that you have a smooth experience when working with us for care. I absolutely couldn’t do it without him. One conversation and I’m sure you’ll love him as much as I do!

Our commitment to the safety & wellbeing of children

We look so young here! This is the two of us immediately after being sworn in by a judge after taking our oath as child abuse and neglect court advocates at the Salt Lake City Third District Courthouse. As a team, we have devoted approximately 500 hours acting as Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) preventing the maltreatment of foster children in our community, with a caseload of 8 children served throughout their entire abuse case. We went through 40 hours of training, a swearing in ceremony, and eventually became so successful that we were asked to lead a training talk for new volunteers. We’ve been told they give us the hard cases no one else wants, but we just see kids in need of care.

*Note: Kelsey’s CASA certificate has Rood because of maiden name!
